2017 THE HESS COLLECTION, CHARDONNAY
NAPA VALLEY CHARDONNAY
100% Chardonnay
Vintage 2017 began with restorative rains that replenished soils, helped support vine growth and fortified our vineyards through the Spring. The late-August heat wave that continued into September led us to begin harvest just after Labor Day. From the start, yields looked promising, as the sugars and acids in the grapes showed incredible balance. October was marked by wildfires in the North Coast, and while the fires devastated many homes and properties, our Chardonnay grapes were already picked and safely in the winery, with the majority of the area's vineyards not significantly affected. Despite it being a tumultuous year, overall, we saw an abundant harvest that gave our winemakers quality fruit and the opportunity to develop wines with depth and character.
ANNABELLA, CHARDONNAY
Napa Valley Chardonnay
Chardonnay (100%)
The 2016 Annabella Napa Valley Chardonnay shimmers golden in the glass, volunteering enticing aromas of red pear, mandarin oranges, a light crème brûlée, and a diaphanous vanilla spiciness. In the mouth, the wine shows flavors of golden delicious apple, subtle white flowers, and a light candied lemon peel. The light oak influence is well integrated into the wine's delicate structure, melding well into a round, soft palate with a bright, youthful acidity.
Enjoy this exquisite wine with seared sea scallops served over buttered pappardelle, served with an arugula salad with goat cheese and mandarin oranges.

2017 LA COUX CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE
50% Grenache / 50% Syrah
Côtes du Rhône AOC
- GOTHAM PROJECT -
The vineyard for the La Coux is situated at the heart of the Enclave des Papes, south of the village of Valréas. The special characteristics of its latitude and altitude give it unique climate conditions, perfect for creating structured and complex wines with magnificent freshness. The 82 hectares of this estate encompass different sectors of the village of Valréas at different altitudes and varied clay-chalk or sandy soil types. The Grenache and Syrah grow in plots as high as 320 meters above sea level and therefore benefit from a cooler climate. The temperature variation between day and night allow the grapes to ripen slowly, which plays a key role in the development of good tannins. The vines are south- and west-facing, so they are also bathed in the rays of the setting sun. The vines are cultivated according to the principles of sustainable agriculture. The wine is a blend of 50% Grenache and 50% Syrah fermented and aged in stainless steel. This wine teems with a diverse array of fruits: mulberries, black plums, blueberries and black cherries that mesh with forest floor notes. This full-bodied, deeply flavorful and highly drinkable wine is deftly balanced with gentle, accommodating tannins and a discreet, almost undercover, acidity.

2017 KATAS, TEMPRANILLO
100% Tempranillo
Rioja, Spain
- GOTHAM PROJECT -
but Rioja cannot appear on the label because of DO restrictions against wine exported in bulk. The moderately warm days and cool nights allow the grapes to ripen slowly on clay and sandy limestone soils, bringing bright aromas and concentrated flavors. Post-harvest, the grapes soak cold for 5 days at 45°F, to enhance aromas, color and flavor. Following fermentation, maceration is extended for 10 days to extract all beneficial color and tannins. The wine is aged in stainless steel to emphasize the pure, young flavor of the Tempranillo grape. This Tempranillo boasts the region's hallmark aromas of tobacco leaf. It's an elegant red that unleashes layers of blueberries, red berry fruit, and ripe strawberries. The broad, mouth-filling attack leads to a plump mid-palate. Medium-bodied with soft and sculpted tannins countered by fresh acidity.
